Printed photos and digital files are different specifications

What to check
A physical size in millimetres, a pixel count and a file-size limit answer different questions. The UK printed-passport guide uses a 35 × 45 mm photo, but digital application requirements must be checked separately.
Prepare and compare
The pixels-to-millimetres calculation uses the chosen printing resolution. A file containing the expected pixels does not force a print shop to use the same physical size. Ask for actual-size printing and inspect a measured print.
Before you travel
Use the photo canvas or print sheet only as a preparation aid. Do not stretch a face to make it fit. Check composition, background and whether the receiving authority allows the proposed printing method.
